Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled and the wineskins are ruined.  But they put new wine into new wineskins and both are preserved.  Matthew 9: 17

Throughout the gospels; Jesus is constantly preaching about renewal and the new person that we become as we learn to follow him.  That there is not an area of our life where His light and the Father’s Plan will not penetrate.  We come to that relationship already with some wine.  The wine is the fruit of our ideas, loves and perceptions about the world.  In our life before He came into it; we may have drunk deeply from the wine of this world; its pleasures, its fears and its failures.  We may have even had some wine about love and about God.  Yet before Jesus came into our life, that wine was old, didn’t and couldn’t satisfy.  Indeed, we may have been drawn to Christ by the very nature that the old wine skin was completely or nearly empty.

So it is that we may find ourselves trying to pour the new wine of God’s Love through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into our old wineskins.  Those being the wineskins of how we saw the world prior to Christ.  It may be that those old wineskins are still full and can not accept any of the new wine or even if they are empty as we try to fill them with the new wine of Christ’s Love and Teachings, they keep bursting, for they are incapable of holding His New Wine.

Where do I purchase these new wineskins for they must be so very expensive coming at the cost of His Death.  And truth in fact they are beyond the price that any can pay nor can any earn.  That is where the miracle of Mercy and Grace comes in.  These new wineskins are a free gift, freely given with no strings attached by the only One worthy to offer the gift.  Jesus Christ, by His sacrifice and Loving obedience to our Heavenly Father, eagerly supplies us with the wineskins and the new wine and asks; actually pleads with us to drink deeply.  Promising that whomever shall drink of this wine believing that He is the Son of God will never thirst again.

So my prayer is that you will reach out for the new wine skins, replacing the old the wine of this world with the new Wine of Jesus Christ.  While the blessings will be overflowing, they will never burst or be ruined.
